“Broadland Tunes” – Vaughan Williams In East Anglia Conference

Conference delegates were treated to a selection of instrumental tunes taken from songs collected by Vaughan Williams in the Norfolk Broads during his visits in April 1908 and October 1910. Performed by Alex Bartholomew and Alan Helsdon, filmed by Jake Lee Savage.

A “Basket Of Eggs” (Roud 377) was collected in Rollesby on 25th October 1910 from Mr George Lock.

“Turkish Lady” (Roud 8124) was collected in Hickling on April 18th 1908 from a man called “Pete” at an Inn in the area.

“Polly Oliver” (Roud 367) was collected in Ranworth on April 17th 1908 from Mr Walter “Skipper” Debbage.

“Irish Girl” (Roud 308) was collected by George Gorble from Filby in Norfolk, on 25th/26th October 1910.
