Vaughan Williams’ Folk Films

Having sound recordist Jake Lee Savage working so closely alongside the VWF Team from the outset, and delighted with his vision and creative ideas, we invited Jake to add filming to his CV and we’re delighted with the results which can be found on our YouTube channel HERE. Alternatively click on each film link below.

Please note: The films on this page are specific to events that we ran as part of the Vaughan Williams’ Folk Project.

There are, in addition to these films, films made from individual Schools and Communities work which have been filmed by a number of people. These can be found in the RESOURCES section within this Project’s webpages though many of them form part of our final Schools and Communities film created towards the end of the project in the Summer of 2023.

Film 13 – Vaughan Williams’ Folk – FolkEast Youth Showcase – August 2023

Our talented group of 9 young musicians met to play together for the first time in February 2023. Between then and July, they met via zoom for one to ones with tutors Finn Collinson and Emma Beach and in groups. In July they came together again in person for a weekend’s intensive 2 day workshop followed by a dress rehearsal on Thursday 17th August in the Blaxhall Village Hall, five minutes down the road from the FolkEast festival site, a day before the first of two Showcase Performances. Take a look for yourself at the quality of these up and coming musicians – the first of these Showcases was performed to a packed tent of around 600 people!

This strand of the Vaughan Williams’ Folk Project has reached over 2,500 people and have been taken across the counties of Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk via Schools and local community groups. Many of these short films that make up this film have been captured by the musicians leading their workshops and our film maker Jake Lee Savage has collated these shorts and produced this final film.
